DAYTON/INDIANAPOLIS – The Horizon League released its 2021-22 Men’s Basketball All-Academic Team on Thursday, recognizing student-athletes for their success both in competition and in the classroom. Wright State redshirt junior Grant Basile was among the nine student-athletes who were honored in balloting by the League’s faculty athletics representatives.
Basile, who is currently working on his masters in Sports Management after receiving his undergraduate degree in Wright State’s winter commencement, has started and appeared in all 29 games, and is averaging 17.8 points per game, the second-most on the roster and a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per contest. Basile has tallied 26 double-digit scoring performances to date, including 12 20-plus point games, and is one of 15 Wright State players all-time with both 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds. His work in the classroom has earned him a spot on the Wright State University Dean’s List three times (Spring 2019, Spring 2020, Spring 2021 semesters) and he has been named to the Horizon League academic honor roll five times (Fall 2019-Fall 2021).
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes with seasonal Academic All-League Teams in each of its 19 championship sports. To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team’s overall contests. An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes but did not make the All-Academic team.
