Super Bowl LVI Legacy Grant Program – Champions Live Here to Support 56 Unsung Hero
Organizations Helping Underserved Communities Across the Los Angeles Region
Each year, the NFL seeks to improve the surrounding communities of the Super Bowl host city through the Super Bowl Legacy Grant Program, by giving an annual $1 million contribution from the NFL Foundation. This year, a $2 million grant – supported by funding from the NFL Foundation, the Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee, the LA84 Foundation and the Play Equity Fund – will support the Champions Live Here initiative, which has shined a spotlight on the achievements of 56 local Champion organizations who often go unrecognized and provided grant awards to help these organizations continue the tremendous work they are doing in the community. The 56 Champion organizations focus their work in the areas including youth development, jobs & economic opportunity and social justice.
Over the past year, the NFL Foundation’s Super Bowl Legacy Grant contribution has used the spotlight of the Super Bowl to showcase the achievements of these Champion organizations that often go unrecognized. The Legacy Program has awarded each of the selected Champion organizations with a $10,000 grant, a professionally-produced vignette-style video spotlighting their organization, and ongoing public recognition of their work in the leadup to Super Bowl LVI. Additionally, six of these 56 organizations were selected in December to each receive a total grant award of $50,000, to make an even bigger impact in their community. You can see the full list of the 56 Champions here.
NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL, Los Angeles Rams Owner STAN KROENKE, Los Angeles Chargers Owner DEAN SPANOS, Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee Chairman and Chairman & CEO – Wasserman, CASEY WASSERMAN, Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee CEO KATHRYN SCHLOESSMAN, LA84 Foundation President & CEO RENATA SIMRIL, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation Director, NORMA GARCÍA-GONZÁLEZ were all present for the press conference Thursday at Jefferson Elementary School, part of the Lennox School District in Inglewood to celebrate the 56 Champion Organizations and also unveil the Mobile Play Program: Park On The Move.
The Park On The Move program is a partnership between the NFL, the Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee, the LA84 Foundation, the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks & Recreation, the Play Equity Fund and Playworks. Functioning as a park on wheels, the Mobile Play Program will serve communities with limited park and recreation space, to meet youth in their neighborhoods and provide them an opportunity to play for years to come.
“We are honored to have worked alongside the Los Angeles Super Bowl Host Committee and the Super Bowl LVI Grant Program partners to recognize and support the 56 unsung hero organizations and the transformative impact they have made on their communities,” said NFL Vice President of Philanthropy and Executive Director of the NFL Foundation, ALEXIA GALLAGHER. “We’re proud that our grant partnership has helped to provide meaningful resources and support to the Los Angeles community during these challenging times and for years to come.”
“The Super LVI Legacy Program is another great example of the tangible benefits that major events bring to our region,” said Kathryn Schloessman, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission. “Over the past year, we have been able to use the spotlight of Super Bowl LVI to showcase 56 unsung hero organizations and the tremendous work they are doing in our community. We are proud to now launch the Mobile Play Program to carry on the Super Bowl LVI Legacy for years to come.”
“The Super Bowl LVI Legacy Program will expand the work of a variety of partners who are committed to finding solutions to the challenges that exist for kids in under-resourced communities,” said Renata Simril, President & CEO of the LA84 Foundation. “These are challenges every city faces, but they aren’t insurmountable if we work together. The NFL has dedicated resources to support unsung heroes who are making the Los Angeles region better, and is shining a spotlight on their work to inspire others to join in. This partnership will bring play and sports to neighborhoods where kids don’t have the chance to play, to address the Play Equity gap and make these young lives better. That’s the real legacy of Super Bowl LVI.”
