Hawkeyes’ Nijziel, Nittany Lions’ Gladieux, and Scarlet Knights’ Causarano claim weekly awards

Offensive Player of the Week
Sophia Gladieux, Penn State
F – So. – Boyertown, Pa. – Oley Valley

• Led Penn State to a thrilling 3-2 overtime win at No. 7 Maryland on Sept. 18

• Scored twice in the game, connecting both times off backhand blasts

• Her second goal came a few minutes into extra time, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving Penn State the overtime win

• Earns her second career Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honor and first of the season

Defensive Player of the Week
Anthe Nijziel, Iowa

D – Sr. – Eindhoven, Netherlands – Van Maerlantyceum
 

• Anchored a Hawkeye defense that posted two shutouts and allowed a combined nine shots in road wins at Indiana and at No. 5 Louisville

• The shutouts were the team’s fifth and sixth consecutive shutouts where it has allowed just 16 shots in six games

• It was Iowa’s first win over Louisville since 2008, first road win over a top-five foe since 2007 and third win over a top-11 team this season

• The 2021 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner claims her second career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week award and first of the season

Freshman of the Week

Guillermina Causarano, Rutgers

M – Salta, Argentina – Colegio San Pablo

• Started in both games last weekend to help Rutgers to two ranked wins, defeating No. 20 Monmouth and No. 22 Delaware

• Scored her first career goal against Monmouth on Sept. 17, which was the eventual game-winning goal

• The win against Monmouth marked Rutgers’ fourth ranked win this season through six games

• Garners her first career Big Ten Freshman of the Week award

• Last Rutgers Freshman of the Week: Iris Langejans (Sept. 7, 2021)
