CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati left-handed pitcher Evan Shawver (Amherst, Ohio/Steele) was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the seventh round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft.
The 6-0, 175-lb junior was taken with the 200th overall pick and is the second UC player to be selected by the Rockies after Bill Metzinger in 1992. UC has had at least one player selected in each of the last five MLB Drafts.
Shawver made 30 career appearances at UC with 23 starts. He struck out 153 batters in 130.2 innings pitched, holding his foes to a .215 batting average.
He was 3-1 with a 2.72 ERA and 49 strikeouts in 2021. Recently, he made two starts for the Harwich Mariners in the Cape Cod League, striking out 22 batters without issuing a single walk.
