Philadelphia Union are back at Subaru Park on Wednesday night for Pride Night presented by Subaru as they host defending MLS Cup Champions, Columbus Crew SC. Kick off is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Match coverage on PhiladelphiaUnion.com will begin at 7 p.m.
The Boys in Blue enter the midweek affair coming off a huge draw on the road at Atlanta United FC. After producing the majority of the offensive chances in the opening half, the hosts got a pair of fortunate goals but Philly fought back with. Moments after falling behind 2-0, Cory Burke started the comeback with a goal in the 84th minute after a hard shot from Jamiro Monteiro was saved but the Union forward tapped it in. Everyone knows what happened next with defender Jakob Glesnes delivering a golazo from 40 yards out for the 2-2 draw.
Wednesday night’s contest will be the second time the Union and Crew have matched up in 2021. The Eastern Conference foes began the MLS season against one another in Ohio with a big save from Andre Blake preserving the road point for the Union. Columbus owns a 9-15-4 record in the all-time series but the Union have found success at home against the Crew in the past with seven of their nine wins coming in front of the Union faithful.
Sitting one point behind the Union, Columbus comes into Philadelphia off an emotional 2-0 home win against Chicago Fire FC. The match was the final one at Historic Crew Stadium and fitting finished in Dos A Cero fashion. Gyasi Zardes led the Crew’s offense once more with a pair of goals for his ninth multi-goal game for the Crew. Before the international break the Crew end a 15-match away winless run when they beat New York City FC on May 22. Columbus has just one two-match away winning streak since the start of the 2016 season, winning at Cincinnati and Atlanta in August-September 2019, the two games immediately preceding the 15-match drought.
