The Memorial Tournament: Nationwide takes new role beginning in 2022

Community leader becomes new presenting sponsor of the Tournament’s leading philanthropic initiative, the annual Legends Luncheon

Dublin, Ohio – The Memorial Tournament and Nationwide have announced that the Tournament’s longtime presenting sponsor will transition into a new role with the Memorial at the conclusion of the 2021 event. This statement comes in conjunction with the PGA TOUR’s and Memorial’s joint announcement made earlier today that Workday, Inc., a leader in enterprise cloud applications for finance and human resources, will become the new presenting sponsor of the Memorial Tournament, through a 10-year agreement beginning in 2022.

Nationwide, which has been the presenting sponsor of the Memorial Tournament since 2011, will continue to support the Memorial, through a multiyear agreement beginning in 2022, with a relationship that will be centered on the Tournament’s connection with Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Tournament-week benefits. Additionally, Nationwide will maintain its strong association with the Memorial’s annual community fund raising event, the Legends Luncheon, by becoming the Luncheon’s presenting sponsor starting in 2021.

The goal of the Legends Luncheon presented by Nationwide, the Memorial Tournament’s leading philanthropic initiative, is to support advances in pediatric care and research throughout the areas of most need at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The 2020 Luncheon raised a record $1,450,000 for the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and Nationwide Children’s Hospital alliance, equaling the largest single-year donation in the event’s history and bringing the event’s nine-year total to more than $9 million.

“As presenting sponsor of the Memorial Tournament for the last ten years, Nationwide has had the opportunity to showcase a world-class PGA TOUR event, partner with golf’s greatest legend in our shared hometown, and make a difference in the lives of countless kids and families who have been served by Nationwide Children’s Hospital,” said Kirt Walker, Nationwide’s chief executive officer. “Through the Memorial, we have raised nearly $17 million in support of the life-changing work being done at the hospital and we’re grateful for the inspiration we gained from our courageous Patient Champions. Looking ahead, our commitment to raising awareness and critically needed funds for the hospital remains steadfast. As Nationwide’s tenure as presenting sponsor of the Memorial Tournament comes to a close following the 2021 event, we are excited to transition to a meaningful multiyear partnership and support our business partner Workday in their new presenting sponsorship. I would like to thank Jack and Barbara, the Nicklaus family, and everyone at the Memorial Tournament and Muirfield Village Golf Club for a wonderful 10 years.”

Furthermore, Nationwide will continue to support the Memorial Tournament’s volunteer programs via Nationwide’s associate volunteer initiative and sponsorship of the Tournament’s Volunteer of the Year award.

“Nationwide has been an incredible partner for the past 11 years and we are indebted for their support and investment in the Memorial Tournament and the PGA TOUR,” said Jack Nicklaus II, Memorial Tournament General Chairman. “Since 2011, the Memorial Tournament has grown in stature and has annually achieved new heights of charitable giving, due in large part to Nationwide’s sponsorship commitment. We offer sincere thanks and gratitude for Nationwide’s unwavering partnership and look forward to establishing a new chapter with Nationwide beginning in 2022. In the meantime, we have our sights set on the week of May 31st, 2021, at Muirfield Village Golf Club and celebrating the final year of Nationwide as our presenting sponsor.”|
