Dublin, Ohio – Officials of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide announced today that the Tournament has accepted entries from three-time major champion Jordan Spieth, former PGA Championship winner Jason Day, 2019 Memorial winner Patrick Cantlay, and rising star Viktor Hovland to compete in the premiere invitational Tournament hosted by golf legend Jack Nicklaus.

The latest commitments give the Memorial Tournament the top 10 players in FedExCup points: Bryson DeChambeau (1), Justin Thomas (2), Hovland (3), Xander Schauffele (4), Sam Burns (5), Stewart Cink (6), Cameron Smith (7), Cantlay (8), Spieth (9), Hideki Matsuyama (10).

Spieth, 27,is experiencing his best season since his 2017 three-win campaign. Through 17 starts he has recorded seven top-10 finishes, including his 12th career PGA TOUR title last month at the Valero Texas Open and a third-place effort the following week at The Masters Tournament. From 2015 to 2017, Spieth was one of the most dominant golfers on the planet, winning 10 tournaments, a FedExCup title (2015) and the Jack Nicklaus Award (2015) as PGA TOUR Player of the Year. Those wins included three major championships: the Masters Tournament (2015), U.S Open (2015) and The Open Championship (2017). The Texas native has worked his way back up in the Official World Golf Ranking, where he is now No. 26 and sits at No. 9 in FedExCup points. Since turning professional in 2012, Spieth has garnered $45,293,991 in PGA TOUR career earnings. In his eight starts at the Memorial, his best finish was T-3 (2015) and he owns a Tournament scoring average of 71.13. Spieth finished T-13 in the 2020 Memorial, bringing his earnings to $1,096,058.77.

Day has become a solid fixture atop PGA TOUR leaderboards since winning his first title in 2010 at the HP Byron Nelson Championship. Since then, he has posted 16 top-10 finishes in major championships alone. He captured his first major in 2015 at the PGA Championship and owns a total of 12 PGA TOUR titles, his last two coming in 2018 at the Farmers Insurance Open and Wells Fargo Championship. The 33-year-old Australian native, now living in Columbus, Ohio, has been a member of four International Presidents Cup squads (2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017) and has PGA TOUR career earnings of $49,027,443. He has recorded two top-10 finishes this season and is  No. 67 in the world ranking and No. 102 in FedExCup points. Day will be making his 13th start at the Memorial. He grabbed his best finish at Muirfield Village Golf Club last year when he tied for fourth. Day’s Memorial Tournament earnings stand at $763,997.44 and his scoring average is 71.95.

Cantlay emerged as a top contender on the PGA TOUR during the 2018-19 season. His victory in the 44th Memorial was one of nine top-10 finishes accounting for more than $6 million in earnings, both career-bests for the 29-year-old California native since turning professional in 2012. Cantlay has continued his solid play over the past two seasons, grabbing seven top-10 finishes, including his third PGA TOUR title at the 2020 ZOZO CHAMPIONSHIP @ SHERWOOD and two second-place outings. He is currently ranked No. 8 in FedExCup points and No. 12 in the world. Cantlay will be making his fifth start at the 2021 Memorial, where he set a Tournament record in 2019 for lowest final-round score by a winner with a bogey-free 8-under 64. He currently ranks No. 6 in career earnings at the Memorial with $2,108,091 and holds the record for lowest scoring average at 70.19.

Hovland, 23, is one of the PGA TOUR’s bright young stars. Through 17 starts of his third season on TOUR he has already eclipsed his combined 2019 and 2020 totals for top-10 finishes and earnings. On strength of six top-10s, including his second PGA TOUR title at the 2021 Mayakoba Golf Classic presented by UNIFIN, Hovland currently sits at No. 3 in FedExCup points and No. 12 in the world. The Norwegian’s first TOUR win came at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open and he has tallied $7,388,215 in career earnings. Hovland finished third in the Workday Charity Open held at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 2020 and will be making his second start at this year’s Memorial Tournament. The 2018 U.S. Amateur champion finished T-48 last year with a scoring average of 74 after rounds of 74-66-77-79.
