Kansas City Royals get Domingo Tapia from Seattle

KANSAS CITY, MO (May 22, 2021) – The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Domingo Tapia from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations. Tapia has been optioned to Omaha (AAA) following the acquisition. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club has transferred right-handed pitcher Jesse Hahn to the 60-day Injured List (right shoulder impingement). Hahn is eligible for reinstatement on June 11.

Tapia, 29, has made a pair of scoreless relief appearances with the Mariners this season, including most recently on May 3 vs. Baltimore. He was claimed by Seattle off waivers from Boston on Oct. 23, 2020, after making his Major League debut and pitching in five games with the Red Sox in 2020.

Additionally, the Royals have sent INF/OF Hunter Dozier to Omaha (AAA) on a rehab assignment.
