OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher J.B. Wendelken on the injured list with a strained left oblique and recalled right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems from their alternate site, the club announced today.
Wendelken pitched in his American League leading 15th game of the season yesterday and is 0-0 with a 4.38 ERA and .283 opponents batting average. He allowed three runs on six hits in 2.0 innings over his last two games after logging a 2.61 ERA and .220 opponents average over his first 13 contests.
Weems joins the A’s for the second time this year. He was previously recalled on April 6 and compiled a 3.86 ERA and .125 opponents batting average in three relief appearances before he was optioned back to the A’s alternate site April 21. Weems had a 6.14 ERA in seven spring appearances but allowed a .222 opponents batting average.
