CLEVELAND – Prior to tonight’s game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Alex McRae from the Schaumburg training facility and optioned right-hander Zack Burdi to Schaumburg.
McRae, 28, made two relief appearances with the White Sox in 2020, allowing just one hit with no walks and two strikeouts over 3.0 IP. He has appeared in 15 games (two starts) over parts of three seasons in the major leagues with Pittsburgh (2018-19) and the Sox (2020), posting a 7.50 ERA (30 ER/36.0 IP).
McRae, 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on January 8, 2020.
Burdi, 26, has made one appearance over two stints with the White Sox this season, allowing two runs on four hits over 3.0 IP in yesterday’s loss at Boston.
