TONIGHT’S GAME: Is the Diamondbacks’ 2021 home opener and Game

IN MEMORIAM: As part of tonight’s Opening Night ceremonies the
Diamondbacks will honor Mike Bell, who during spring training died of
cancer at age 46…Mike is the son of Buddy Bell, the Reds’ Vice President,
Senior Advisor to President of Baseball Operations, and brother of Reds
manager David Bell…Mike spent 13 years working in the Diamondbacks’
player development department before joining the Twins’ Major League
coaching staff in 2020…Reds Chief Executive Officer Bob Castellini said,
“This great baseball family blessed thousands of people over the 70 years
it has devoted to our game. We are honored that Mike, like his grandfather
Gus, his father Buddy and brother David, wore a Reds uniform.”…Mike
appeared in 19 games for the Reds in 2000…Buddy played for the Reds from
1985-1988…Gus played for the Reds from 1953-1961 and was inducted into
their Hall of Fame in 1964…David and Mike graduated from Archbishop
Moeller High School in Cincinnati.
SERIES NOTES: The Reds and Diamondbacks are meeting for the first time
since 2019…the Reds are 5-3 in their last 8 games at Chase Field…are 34-
19 at Ari with the ballpark roof closed and 6-12 with the roof open…Cin won
