INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Wisconsin men’s basketball team received the No. 9 seed in the South Region of the 2021 NCAA Tournament and will face eighth-seeded North Carolina in the first round on Friday at 6:10 p.m. (CT) on CBS. The game will be played at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.
The Badgers are making their 25th trip to the Big Dance overall and are one of five schools to appear in 21 of the last 22 NCAA tournaments.
Wisconsin and North Carolina have met twice in the NCAA tournament, with the Badgers recording a win in the 2015 Sweet 16 and the Tar Heels claiming a win in the 2005 Elite Eight. Overall, UNC holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series, including a win in the most recent meeting at the 2016 Maui Invitational championship game.
Wisconsin is 38-23 (.623) all-time in the NCAA tournament, reaching four Final Fours and 10 Sweet 16s. The Badgers have made the Sweet 16 in six of the last nine NCAA tournaments. The Badgers have made the NCAA tournament’s second weekend in 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 during that stretch.
The winner of the first-round matchup will face the winner of a game between No. 1 seed Baylor and No. 16 seed Hartford in the round of 32 on Sunday, March 21.
