SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts guard Max Abmas nabbed the first #SummitMBB Player of the Week honor of his career after an electrifying-scoring weekend, league officials announced Monday. The sharpshooting sophomore averaged 36.0 ppg while shooting 54 percent from the field and 58 percent from 3-point range in a split with South Dakota State.
In the 103-86 victory to open the weekend series, Abmas scored a career-high 42 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the floor. He went 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to become the first Golden Eagle to score 40-plus in a game since the 2007-08 season. The 42 points are the most by a Summit League player in a game this season and the second most by a Division I player.
Abmas added 30 points in Sunday’s 95-80 setback to the Jackrabbits that left ORU within a game of first place in the league standings. He went 6-for-11 from 3-point range in the contest and added four assists and had his second-straight game with a pair of steals against SDSU.
It was the league-leading fifth time the Rockwall, Texas, native scored 30 or more points in a game this season and now ranks second in the nation in scoring at 23.2 ppg.
