CBJ places defenseman Zach Werenski on IR; calls ups Liam Foudy from Taxi Squad

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed defenseman Zach Werenski on Injured Reserve retroactive to February 4 and have added forward Liam Foudy to the roster from the club’s taxi squad, Blue Jackets General Manager and Alternate Governor Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Werenski, 23, suffered a lower body injury in Thursday’s game vs. Dallas and is expected to miss one-to-two weeks.  He has recorded a goal and three assists for four points with nine penalty minutes in 12 games with the Blue Jackets this season.  The Grosse Pointe, Michigan native has registered 59-114-173 with 67 penalty minutes and a cumulative +14 plus/minus rating in 312 career games with the club since making his NHL debut in 2016-17.  He led NHL defensemen while setting a single-season franchise record for goals by a blueliner with 20-21-41 in 63 games in 2019-20.  The 6-2, 218-pound blueliner was Columbus’ first round pick, eighth overall, at the 2015 NHL Draft.

Foudy, 21, has collected three assists, two penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 11 games this season.  He has recorded 0-4-4, two penalty minutes and is +4 in 13 career games with the club since making his NHL debut in 2019-20.  The 6-2, 193-pound forward added 1-1-2 in 10 contests during the 2020 NHL playoffs.  A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Foudy was selected by the Blue Jackets in the first round, 18th overall, at the 2018 NHL Draft.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Sunday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.  Game time from Nationwide Arena is 3 p.m. ET.  The game will be broadcast live on FOX Sports Ohio and the FOX Sports Go app with coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m. with the “Blue Jackets Live” pre-game show.  It will also be broadcast on the Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs Blue Jackets Radio Network, including 97.1 The Fan in Columbus.
