Blue Jackets announce roster moves

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Nathan Gerbe to the taxi squad and forward Stefan Matteau to the Cleveland Monsters, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Gerbe, 33, has posted 62 goals and 87 assists for 149 points with 196 penalty minutes in 427 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres, including 4-7-11 and 24 penalty minutes in 33 career appearances with the Blue Jackets from 2017-21.  He collected an assist and two penalty minutes in his Columbus season debut on Saturday vs. Tampa Bay and registered 4-6-10 and 22 penalty minutes in 30 games with the club in 2019-20.  The Oxford, Michigan native has added 63-106-169 and 187 penalty minutes in 196 career American Hockey League games.  He collected 8-17-25 and 22 penalty minutes in 30 games with the Monsters in 2019-20.  The 5-4, 176-pound forward was originally drafted by the Sabres in the fifth round, 142nd overall, at the 2005 NHL Draft.

Matteau, 26, has recorded 5-5-10 and 32 penalty minutes in 73 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils.  He collected 2-1-3 and five penalty minutes in nine appearances with the Blue Jackets in 2019-20 after signing a two-year, two-way NHL/AHL contract with the club on Feb. 19, 2020.  The Chicago, Illinois native has added 69-77-146 and 408 penalty minutes in 361 career AHL appearances, including 12-16-28 in 50 contests with Cleveland in 2019-20.  The 6-2, 208-pound forward was selected by New Jersey in the first round, 29th overall, at the 2012 NHL Draft.
