CBJ makes roster move; Sherwood to IR, recalls Hannikainen

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed right wing Kole Sherwood on Injured Reserve retroactive to November 9 and recalled left wing Markus Hannikainen from the Cleveland Monsters, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate.

Sherwood, 22, is expected to miss four to six weeks due to an oblique tear.  He has skated in five career NHL games, including three in 2019-20 after making his season debut on November 2 vs. Calgary.  He has notched 19 goals and 10 assists for 29 points with 87 penalty minutes and a +3 plus/minus rating in 68 career AHL games with the Monsters, including 3-1-4, 14 penalty minutes and is +2 in 10 outings this season.

The New Albany, Ohio native was signed by the Blue Jackets to a three-year, entry level contract on July 7, 2015 and became the first player born in the Columbus-area to appear in a regular season game for the Blue Jackets when he made his NHL debut on February 16, 2019 at Chicago.  The 6-1, 212-pound winger played three seasons with the Ohio AAA Blue Jackets organization from 2012-15.

Hannikainen, 26, has registered 8-7-15 with 14 penalty minutes in 91 career NHL games since making his league debut with Columbus in 2015-16.  He set career highs in 2018-19 with 4-3-7 in 44 games.

The Helsinki, Finland native has added 27-38-65, 42 penalty minutes and a +13 plus/minus rating in 123 career AHL contests with the Monsters.  He has recorded 1-4-5 and an “even” plus/minus rating in eight games in 2019-20.  The 6-1, 200-pound winger was originally signed to an entry level contract with Columbus on Apr. 20, 2015.

Single game tickets for all home games played at Nationwide Arena during the 2019-20 regular season are on sale now.  Information on all ticketing options can be obtained by calling (800) NHL‐COLS or by visiting BlueJackets.com.
