DAYTON – The Wright State men’s basketball team saw three players turn in double-digit scoring nights, but the Raiders fell 81-71 on Tuesday to visiting Toledo in a game of runs inside the Nutter Center.
Wright State (1-2) now resets before heading to the Greenbrier Tip-Off this weekend for a pair of matchups, taking on Radford Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. before a 12 p.m. Sunday tip against Kent State. Tuesday, visiting Toledo (1-2) tallied 10 of the first 14 points before the Raiders responded with an 11-2 run to pull back even and later closed the half with five of the final seven points, capped by a Solomon Callaghan driving layup just before the horn, to take a 39-34 advantage into the locker room. Toledo opened the second 20 minutes on a 10-0 scoring run as the visitors scored 20 of the first 27 second half points.
After Toledo pushed the margin to its largest point at 16 with just under eight minutes remaining, Wright State scored the next eight points to get the deficit back to single digits, but Toledo was able to keep the game at arms’ length, responding with a 6-2 run of its own down the stretch.
Michael Imariagbe paced Wright State with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with five rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Michael Cooper had a complete stat line of 15 points with two rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Dominic Pangonis was the third Raider in double digits with 13 points, aided by a 6-of-7 mark at the free throw line as he added a trio of rebounds.
Wright State shot 55 percent overall but connected on four of its six three-pointers in the opening half. Toledo shot 61 percent in the second half as part of a 56 percent overall shooting night while hitting 5-of-10 from deep.
Leroy Blyden Jr. finished with 21 points and nine rebounds, both game-highs, to lead Toledo, who had four players in double figures scoring as the group accounted for 67 of the 81 points.
