Rogers Cup winners are Rafael Nadal, Serena Williams


Serena Williams won her third Rogers Cup women’s championship by dominating unseeded Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-0 in Toronto.

Williams, who currently is ranked #1 in the world, has 54 WTA titles and a singles record of 610-111, good for 84.6%.

On the men’s side, Rafael Nadal beat Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-2 in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal.

The loss spoiled Raonic’s bid to become the first Canadian winner in the 55 years of the prestigious tournament.

Nadal beat Novak Djokovic in Saturday’s semifinal match.

Serena Williams wins Family Circle tournament

Serena Williams capped off a very dominant week, by winning the 2012 Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina.

She wasted little time in disposing of Lucie Safarova 6-0,6-1 to win her first clay-court tournament in four years.

The 30-year-old star has a record of 506-106 and 40 WTA titles.

5th-seeded Radwanska upsets #2 Sharapova to win Sony Ericsson Open

Agnieszska Radwanska, who is ranked fifth, upset #2 Maria Sharapova 7-5, 6-4, over the weekend to win the Sony Ericsson Open in Key Biscayne, Florida, for the first time ever.

The 23-year-old Radwanska is from Poland and has a record of 306-137 in singles play with 9 WTA titles to her credit.

Radwanska, ranked a career-best fourth in the world, earned her fourth title since last summer.

Sharapova, a three-time Grand Slam champion, is winless in four attempts in the Sony Ericsson finals. The Russian tennis star was also the runner-up in 2005, 2006 and 2011.

Clijsters’ latest injury has her thinking retirement

Kim Clijsters, who has had her share of injuries in the past couple years, is on the shelf again and is planning to retire after the summer months.

She has a torn hip muscle and will need four weeks off the tour to recover.

She does plan to represent Belgium in the Summer Olympic games.

The 28-year-old Clijsters, has retired once before on May 6, 2007. But she had second thoughts an returned on August 11, 2009.

Her career record is 511-123 with 41 WTA titles and reached #1 on August 11, 2003.

Former tennis star Sanchez Vicario says parents blew $60 million of her money

Former WTA tennis star Arantxa Sanchez Vicario reported in her memoir that her parents lost an estimated $60 million of her earnings due to mismanagement. She made almost $17 million dollars during her career.

It has been reported over the years that she does not speak or have any type of communication with her parents or two brothers.

The 40-year-old Spaniard had a career record in singles play of 759-295, a winning percentage of 72 percent. She won 29 titles, played in four Olympic Games representing her country of Spain and was #1 in the world on February 6, 1995.

Arantxa said that her parents managed her career, gave her monthly payments and she trusted her father to invest the rest of her money. She says she has no money and owes the back taxes.

Her mother told the media in a statement she and Arantxa’s father never took her money and that their daughter is not broke.
