Former WSU AD Mohr to be honored November 16

Don Mohr has always been special to Wright State University. After all, he was the school’s first athletic director.

Mohr, who died on September 20, will be honored by the university before the men’s basketball game against North Carolina A&T on November 16.

Throughout the 2012-13 basketball season, the Wright State players will wear a “DM” patch on their home uniforms in his honor.

WSU declines to renew volleyball coach’s contract

Wright State University athletic director Bob Grant recently declined to renew the contract of volleyball coach Trina Smith, who ended her tenure at 82-134 in seven seasons.

This season, the Raiders were 6-23.

Wright State played in the Horizon League tournament championship game  in 2005, Smith’s first season, but has finished in the bottom half of the league in each of the past three years.

Grant said it was time to go in a new direction.

Wright State women add three transfers for basketball

The Wright State University women’s basketball team is coming off an improved season in head coach Mike Bradbury.

Recently, the team added three Division I transfer for the future.

6’2 center Erica Solomon, formerly of Notre Dame, 6-foot forward Taylor Stanton from Kent State and Mylan Woods of Northwestern.

Solomon and Stanton must sit out this season per NCAA transfer rules, and 5-11 guard/forward Woods will be eligible after the fall quarter.

The three have a won-loss record combined of 70-32 from winning programs.

Woods has three years of eligibility remaining, Stanton will have have three seasons left beginning in 2012-13 and Solomon will have one season left in 2012-13.

Wright State moves several men’s basketball game dates

Wright State University is moving the dates of four of its home men’s basketball games this season to accomodate the Horizon League’s television schedule, bumping back January home games against Butler and Valparaiso, which are now booked for January 6 and 8.

The other two games are February home games against Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee on February 10 and 12.

Wright State-Butler game was moved from Thursday to Friday and it’ll be the first Friday after the students return to campus for the winter quarter.

OSU men to open against Wright State

The current college basketball season just ended and everybody are already anxious for next season to start.

The Ohio State men will open the 2011-12 season on November 11 at home against Wright State University from nearby Fairborn, Ohio.

The game is part of the Global Sports Shootout that will include Florida, Jackson State and North Florida.

The Buckeyes will play those those three teams later in the tournament.
