OSU women’s soccer team headed to Sweet 16

The OSU women’s soccer team scored two second-half goals in 17 minutes as the Buckeyes beat #2 seed Wisconsin-Milwaukee 2-1 on Friday night in Durham, North Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Buckeyes, now 12-8-2, has advanced to the Sweet 16 for the second straight year and will play #1 seed Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Paige Maxwell broke a 0-0 tie in the 68th minute when she scored in the penalty box. In the 85th minute, Caitlyn Martin made it 2-0.

WRIGHT STATE AT OHIO STATE: men’s basketball kicks off regular season against in-state rival

The Wright State Raiders will be taking that short drive of 60 miles from Fairborn, Ohio to Columbus where they’ll take on the Ohio State Buckeyes tonight at 9:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

Yearly, the Raiders are one of the top teams in the mid-major Horizon League along with Butler, Detroit, Cleveland State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. But after losing four seniors who led them over the years, N’Gai Evans, Vaughn Duggins, Cooper Land and Troy Tabler, the Raiders are picked seventh this season.

Wright State spent part of the summer touring Italy and are hoping that trip bonded all of the new players they’ll have on the roster. The newcomers include: Brooklyn Bradley, Reggie Arceneaux, John Balwigaire, Jason Cuffee, Kendall Griffin, Ulysses Thomas, Vance Hall, Stephen Gossard, Alex Pritchett, Julius Mays and Tavares Sledge.

The Raiders non-conference schedule will include Kenyon, Jackson State, Florida, North Florida, Charlotte, Air Force, Miami, Cincinnati, Ohio, Idaho, Central Michigan and the annual BracketBusters game.

Wright State moves several men’s basketball game dates

Wright State University is moving the dates of four of its home men’s basketball games this season to accomodate the Horizon League’s television schedule, bumping back January home games against Butler and Valparaiso, which are now booked for January 6 and 8.

The other two games are February home games against Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee on February 10 and 12.

Wright State-Butler game was moved from Thursday to Friday and it’ll be the first Friday after the students return to campus for the winter quarter.

Arkansas 1B/OF Robinson named SEC Player of the Week

Arkansas senior Kyle Robinson was named the Southeastern Conference Baseball Player of the Week for hitting .474 with three homers and 13 RBI’s last week.

The award is the first weekly honor for the Arkansas baseball team this year and Robinson is the first Razorbacks player to be selected SEC Player of the Week since Zack Cox on March 29, 2010.

Robinson leads the Arkansas with a .465 batting average, with three homers and 21 RBI’s through 11 games in 2011.

In the SEC, Robinson leads the conference in RBI’s, is third in batting average and is third in homers.

During his blistering week, Robinson led the Razorbacks with a .947 slugging percentage over the five games last week and had a .542 on-base percentage.

Robinson, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, opened the week with a career-high four-for-four vs. McNeese State and had back-to-back four RBI games, including a grand slam in the second game of the series vs. McNeese State. He closed out the week in dramatic fashion, belting a game-winning, two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch Arkansas’ series sweep over Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Wright State loses at Milwaukee; ends 4-game road trip at 2-2

The Wright State Raiders ended a 2-week, 4-game road trip to Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio; Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The trip ended at 2-2 with wins against Youngstown State and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The last loss was at Milwaukee, 54-53.

Anthony Hill scored 22 points as Wisconsin-Milwaukee held off Wright State in a Horizon League contest.

The Panthers who improve to 12-11, 7-5 won despite missing 3 of 6 free throws in the final 37 seconds.

Vaughn Duggins lead the Raiders (14-9, 7-4) with 26 points.
