Rafael Nadal spent seven months away from the game of tennis to recuperate from a knee injury.

In his return to the courts, he looked like the Nadal of old, winning his first match of the year.

The 26-year-old Spaniard partnered with Juan Monaco to beat the Czech Republic pairing of Frantisek Cermak and Lukas Diouhy 6-3, 6-2 at the VTR tournament in Chile.

Nadal, who has won over $50 million in prize money on tour, had not played since June 28, 2012 when he was upset in the second round at Wimbledon.

Williams loses to Stosur, referee in U.S. Open final

Serena Williams was so upset at getting outplayed by Australian tennis player Samantha Stosur, that she started ranting and raving at every close line call that went against her in the match.

Stosur, hitting powerful strokes from the baseline, looked fresher than the more-experienced Williams right from the opening game.

The ninth-seeded Stosur became the first Australian woman to win a major championship since Evonne Goolagong Cawley at Wimbledon in 1980.

The U.S. Open was only the third title for the 27-year-old Stosur at any tour-level event.

Stosur took advantage of Williams’ 25 unforced errors.

Williams played very well all week despite being 28th-ranked in the tournament and ended up finishing second.
