The San Francisco Giants, Major League Baseball world champions from 2010, were the latest team to visit President Barack Obama and the White House.

The Giants’ World Series trophy and a championship ring were displayed in the East Room of the White House where the president honored the team.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy gave the president a number 44 Giants jersey, which happens to be the retired number of slugger Willie McCovey, but signifies Obama being the nation’s 44th president.

Matt Cain, one of the team’s ace pitchers, awarded the president with a bat emblazoned with the president’s name and signed by the entire team.

WORLD SERIES GAME 5: Surprising Giants take down Texas Rangers to win 4 games to 1

It took 56 years for the San Francisco Giants to win a World Series but they did it!

Tim Lincecum, Edgar Renteria and the boys from Frisco won the 2010 World Series, by beating the Texas Rangers 3-1 in a tight, tense Game 5  to win the series by a surprising 4 games to 1 margin.

The Giants had not won a World Series title since their days as the New York Giants back in 1954. The Giants moved to San Francisco prior to the 1958 season.

It’s hard to believe a franchise that has had Willie Mays, Bobby Bonds, Willie McCovey, Barry Bonds, Jim Ray Hart, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Will Clark could not win a World Series title.

Lincecum outpitched Cliff Lee in a matchup that was scoreless until World Series MVP Edgar Renteria earned a the award by hitting a three-run homer with two outs in the seventh inning.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy calls his team a ragtag bunch because they have other team’s castoffs like Pat Burrell, Edgar Renteria, Cody Ross and Aubrey Huff.

Their pitching staff shut down the explosive Texas Rangers offense by hurling 3 shutouts out of five games.

Baseball fans might recall, that San Francisco almost didn’t make the playoffs. They trailed the San Diego Padres by 7 1/2 games in the NL West on July 4 and won it on the next to last day of the season with a record of 92-70.

The Giants were one of several teams who weren’t suppose to make the playoffs joining, Cincinnati, Texas, Minnesota and Atlanta.
