For the past two months, the Columbus Blue Jackets have been in every game and have played playoff-style hockey which this town has been waiting for since the last playoff berth four years ago.

But on Sunday night in a key matchup versus Minnesota, they lacked energy and it cost them dearly.

The Wild used their energy to score two power-play goals in a 3-0 shutout before a dazed crowd of 15,909 at Nationwide Arena.

The loss ended the Blue Jackets’ 12-game home points streak (9-0-3), which is a franchise record.

The loss also hurt their playoff chances. The CBJ remain four points behind Detroit for the eighth playoff spot in the West and only nine games remaining in the season.

Columbus never really tested Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom with only 24 shots on goal.

* RYAN SUTER, WILD Defenseman, played 31 minutes and scored a goal

*  NIKLAS BACKSTROM, WILD Goaltender, encountered an easy night facing just 24 shots

* JASON POMINVILLE,WILD Right Wing, scored a goal and an assist

The National Hockey League is still in the preseason phase of the year, but already there have been suspensions handed down.

Columbus defenseman James Wisniewski and Minnesota winger Brad Staubitz have been suspended indefinitely after Saturday’s game for some chippy play during the Wild’s 4-3 overtime win.

Wisniewski received a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head of Cal Clutterbuck in the third period.

Staubitz was given a 5-minute major and a game misconduct after checking Cody Bass from behind in the third period.

The NHL’s department of player safety, headed by former player Brendan Shanahan will have a hearing and review on these issues.
