University of Dayton senior running back Taylor Harris scored two second half touchdowns and ran for 101 yards to lead the Flyers to a 17-7 win at Central State in the Xenia, Ohio suburb of Wilberforce.

Dayton trailed 7-3 at the half.

Harris’ two-yard run with 9:33 to play in the third quarter gave Dayton a 10-7 lead, then his 17-yard run with 1:35 to play in the game clinched the game for Dayton.

After a scoreless first quarter, CSU executed a perfect out-and-up pass route, quarterback Jeffery Brooks connecting with wide receiver Steve Heard down the sideline for a 49-yard TD pass to take a 7-0 lead. Dayton got on the board two possessions later when Nate Miller hit a 28-yard field goal.

The Dayton offense responded with its longest drive of the day, going 80 yards (70 of it on the ground) in 15 plays to set up Harris’ second TD of the day.

For the second straight game Dayton pounded it on the ground in the second half to earn the win. The previous week in the win over the Marist, UD ran for 80 of its 125 rushing yards in the second half. Against the Marauders, 133 of its 177 yards on the ground came after halftime.

Dayton is now 3-1 on the season.

The Dayton football Flyers took advantage of great field position in the first half of Saturday night’s 45-13 win over area rival, Central State University at Welcome Stadium.

The Flyers scored their first 45 points on seven drives of less than 50 yards.  UD led 17-0 after the first quarter and 38-0 at halftime.  Dayton outgained the Marauders 208 to 15 in total offense in the first half.

Dayton was led by running back Brian Mack, who gained 84 yards on nine rushes and scored two rushing touchdowns. Fellow running back Taylor Harris also scored two rushing touchdowns.

Dayton’s Tyler Hujik returned two punts for 80 yards.

Central State, located just outside Xenia, Ohio in Wilberforce, falls to 1-3 on the young season. Dayton ups its record to 3-1.

The Flyer defense, usually always a solid unit, held CSU running back Josh Anderson to just six net yards in the game.  Anderson came into the game averaging 122.3 yards a game.

Marauder quarterback Jeffrey Brooks rushed 13 times for 63 yards (50 in the second half) and completed 19 of 39 passes (16 of 31 in the second half) for 213 yards (198 in the second half) and two touchdowns.
