Paula Creamer, trying to win her first major title, has maintained her three-shot lead in the U.S. Women’s Open after completing the final five holes of her third round.

Creamer finished up a second straight 1-under 70 at Oakmont Country Club and is one under par through 54 holes. Wendy Ward, a former U.S. amateur champion, is three shots off the lead. Four shots back are Amy Yang, Suzann Pettersen and Christina Kim.

Trailing by five shots is 15-year-old Alexis Thompson, who is trying to become the youngest golfer to win a major in either men’s or women’s golf.

Creamer, who is bothered by a left thumb injury, parred the 14th and 15th holes when play resumed. She took a bogey on the 16th, but rallied with a birdie on the difficult, par-4 18th.

The fourth round of the tournament has begun as of  10:00 A.M. Sunday morning. Rain on Friday pushed the rounds back.

compiled from staff, wire and PGA and LPGA reports

Rain washed out the second round of the Texas Open on Friday, and PGA officials said more bad weather this weekend could push the tournament in Monday.

There were more than three inches of rain soaked the Oaks Course TPC San Antonio, where leader Matt Jones and the rest of the field never got on the course.

Jones, the 30-year Australian, shot a 6-under-par 66 on Thursday to finish with the first opening-round lead of his career. He has four top-10 finishes in 2010 but has yet to win on tour.

Se Ri Pak shot a 6-under 66 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead over Brittany Lincicome and Wendy Ward in the Bell Micro LPGA Classic.

Pak, who opened on the 10th tee, had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on her final nine holes to top the second round leaderboard at 9-under par on The Crossings course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail’s Magnolia Grove complex.

Pak won events in 2001 and 2002.

Several of the players wore purple ribbons and wristbands with “EB” and a heart honoring Erica Blasberg, a 25-year-old tour player who was found dead in suburban Las Vegas on Sunday. The course flag was at half-staff. There is still no word on the cause of death.
