For the past seven months, the Ohio High School Athletic Association has been mulling and considering what penalties to level against Harvest Prep High School, which is run by World Harvest Ministries.

One of the options on the table was to expel (death penalty) from the state membership.

But OHSAA Commissioner Dan Ross said that they really wanted help the athletic department get moving into the right direction.

But for violating numerous regulations and bylaws, the school was slapped with major penalties, which includes no postseason play in any sport this school year, and none in football and boys and girls basketball in 2012-2013; forfeiture of 2010-2011 boys basketball season, including postseason trophies; three years probation beginning in 2013 and a $2,500 fine plus $30,000 in investigation costs.

The charges against Harvest Prep include recruiting, not filing proper paperwork on student-athletes who transfer to the school, and coaches not having the proper certifications.

The school, by order of the OHSAA will be monitored by Max Ness, a former administrator from Mentor, New Albany and Wellington High School. Prep Harvest will pay Ness’ salary as he monitors the athletic department for two years from an office inside the school. He has been at the school since August 1.
