The Watterson Eagles did not know if they would have their starting QB Patrick Rhomberg last weekend for their Division III regional championship game against Tiffin Columbian.

Rhomberg suffered a dislocated big toe the previous week against Elida and did not practice until Friday.

The Eagles were inspired by their leader who played in pain and led the team on two touchdown scoring drives in the second half as Bishop Watterson came from behind to defeat Tiffin Columbian 18-7 in front of 6,000 fans in Selby Field on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.

Rhomberg completed 13 of 23 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown.

The Tornadoes of Tiffin Columbian end the season at 11-2.

The 11-1 Eagles are now in the state semifinals.

So such was the case on Saturday night when the Eagles had to go a final drive for the winning touchdown to beat the Stallions, 14-7 in the Division III playoffs at Hagely Field.

Bishop Watterson quarterback Patrick Rhomberg topped off a 14-play, 84-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown run around left end with 19 seconds to go in the fourth quarter to give top-seeded Watterson another week of football.

With the win, the Eagles lead the series, 34-20-1.
