Jason Garrett rewarded for 5-3 interim record; gets 4-year deal

44-year-old Jason Garrett made Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ decision easier by going 5-3 as the interim coach. He took over a team that had been 1-7 under Wade Phillips. All of the players said he was the right fit for the team.

Garrett will remain the coach of the Cowboys after Jones removed the interim tag and made him the eighth head coach in the team’s history.

He is the first head coach to have also played for the Cowboys. He was a backup QB in the 1990′s.

3-7 record gets Brad Childress fired

Brad Childress wanted to ride Brett Favre’s arm and experience to the Super Bowl. Instead, he rode the quarteback’s poor play to the unemployment line.

Following a season where he got a contract extension and was one win from the Super Bowl, Brad Childress was fired earlier this week by the Minnesota Vikings. The firing ends a very tumultuous run with the team which has been plagued with player unrest, livid fans, bad trades and an angry owner who was tiring of his abrupt decisions.

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, who has interviewed seven times to become an NFL head coach at various places, will serve as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

Owner Zygi Wilf, stormed out of the locker roon after Sunday’s 31-3 home loss to the Green Bay Packers, had sees enough.

Childress, is the second NFL coach to be fired this season after Dallas Got rid of Wade Phillips.

Childress was in his fifth season as the Packers coach. The 31-3 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the most-lopsided home defeat, dropped his home record to 40-37, including 1-2 in the playoffs.

Jerry Jones finally pulls the plug on Wade Phillips in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys are sitting in 1-7 hole and looked terrible on Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers in a 45-7 loss that owner Jerry Jones said “enough is enough.” He said he was in denial about how truly bad his team is and decided to make the change.

He fired Wade Phillips on Monday and promoted offensive coordinator Jason Garrett on an interim basis.

Paul Pasqualoni, the defensive line was promoted to replace Phillips’ as the defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys 45-7 loss to Green Bay was their fifth straight and third in a row that was a blowout.

Jason Garrett has never been a head coach in the NFL.
