GAME REPORT FROM GEORGE McGEIGAN

Independence head football coach Maurice Douglas and his 76ers have always had a great rushing attack.

In recent years, they had Naijae Manning and Vincent Rambo running through defenses.

The current star is DeAntae Townsend.

Townsend rushed 32 times for 486 yards and seven touchdowns Friday night as the 76ers ran past visiting Columbus West, 88-20.

Townsend had an 89-yard TD run in the first half as the 76ers upped their record to 5-3, 4-2 on the season.

The Cowboys of West fall to 3-5, 1-4.

COLUMBUS CITY LEAGUE FOOTBALL: 76ers minus star RB Manning, surprises Mifflin, 32-19

GAME REPORT FROM SLOANE KITTERIDGE

Everybody knows that the Independence 76ers are good when they have their star running back Naijae Manning.

But can they win without him? Yes, they can without a doubt!

With Manning out of action nursing a pectoral injury, the 76ers showed the Mifflin Punchers that they indeed have weapons to indeed compete and win despite their star being out.

Final score, Independence 32 Mifflin 19.

Manning, the 210-pound, 1,000-yard rusher will be back next week but the 76ers showcased other players in his absence.

The 76ers used their speedy track stars, Dominic Ward, Vincent Rambo and Jahquan Walden in various formations including the wildcat, spread and conventional offensive set to spring them free.

Ward raced 66 yards for a touchdown, Walden rambled 50 yards for a score.

The score reached 32-0 at the half and Mifflin was done for the night.
