FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 4 Arkansas baseball team held its first practice of the 2012 preseason on Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium.

Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn met with members of the media before practice and talked about the great weather that greeted the team as spring practice opened.

“I think this is the first time in several years that we’ll be able to get outside and get a lot of work in,” Coach Van Horn said. “It seems like we’ve been pretty charmed this year. We’ll be going full blast with practice and scrimmages this weekend.”

The Razorbacks will enjoy three weeks of practice before getting the season started on Friday, Feb. 17 against Villanova. Coach Van Horn said the team is anxious to get underway.

“I know our players are looking forward to getting the season started,” Coach Van Horn said. “I felt like in the middle of last year when the young guys were playing so well that 2012 could be a great year. I think we’re ready to roll.”

The Razorbacks practiced for three hours on Friday. After opening with some defensive drills, Arkansas closed the practice with an intrasquad scrimmage.

Soft non-conference schedule dooms UC in loss to Villanova

Rashad Bishop (photo by BH photography courtesy of UC athletics)

Much has been made of the University of Cincinnati’s schedule this season en route to their 15-0 record. They did play Oklahoma, Dayton, Miami of Ohio, Xavier and Wright State, their area rivals and all of the games were blowouts with the exception of Wright State.

The Bearcats were winning games by a margin of 20.7 points, which leads the Big East Conference.

But all of that went by the wayside in their first loss of the season to Villanova, 72-61. But then, no one expected Cincinnati to go through the Big East undefeated.

UC fell behind by 16 at halftime, 21 early in the second half and the game was done.

UC is now 15-1, 2-1 in the conference. Villanova ups its record to 14-1, 3-0.

Corey Fisher scored 21 points for the Wildcats who have won nine in a row.

Rashad Bishop led the Bearcats with 14 points.
