GAME REPORT FROM DUKE SHANNON

The Whetstone Braves used to be also-rans when it came to football in the Columbus City League North Division.

That was prior to the 2012 season.

Since then, Don Poff has taken over as the head coach and Hank Patterson is the offensive coordinator and the Braves team has made opponents located North of Broad Street, to take notice that they are no longer an easy mark.

The Braves are 4-4, 2-3 this season. But they ran into a buzzsaw at Northland Friday night in a 33-24 defeat.

The Vikings, under head coach Kevin Tooson, are now 6-1, 4-1 on the season.

Four Vikings players scored at least one touchdown to seal the win.

Northland survived the passing exploits of Whetstone QB Ramroth Finnegan, who threw for four touchdowns on the night.

Northland is an offensive juggernaut themselves as they gained 648 yards in the game, 394 rushing and 254 passing.

There were seven lead changes in the game before Northland scored the game-winner on a 26-yard TD pass from Nick Fischer to Glenn Smith.

(megasportsnews.com photo)

They even beat the Bearcats on Megasportsnews.com’s HIGH SCHOOL BOUNCE at home.
