After 2 1/2 years, finally a win for PGA Tour veteran Jim Furyk

compiled from staff and wire reports

It took golfer Jim Furyk 32 months and 58 tournaments to finally win a PGA Tour event.

He closed with a 2-under-par 69 for a one-shot win over K.J. Choi in the Transitions Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Furyk¬† almost blew his chance to win with his up-and-down play; as he missed the last three greens in regulation, making¬† one remarkable save from a bunker washed out by rain. His birdie on number 10 to build a three-shot lead, failing to make birdie on the par -5 11th hole, a 35-foot birdie on the 12th, a pair of three-putt bogeys on par 3′s sqeezed between an 8-iron into 3-feet for birdie on the 14th hole.

The University of Arizona product finished at 13-under 271 and won for the 14th time in his career, which moves him to number 6 in the world.

Choi closed with a 4-under-par 67, but his runner-up position will move him to number 47 in the world and possibly will get him into the Masters.

Jim Furyk did win the Chervron World Challenge this past December at Sherwood against a world-class field of 18 players, which counts toward world rankings, but it is not a PGA Tour event.
