University of Alabama golfer Emma Talley wins U.S. Amateur

19-year-old Emma Talley won the United States Women’s Amateur beating Yueer Cindy Feng 2 and 1 at the Country Club of Charleston, South Carolina.

Talley just finished her freshman season at the University of Alabama.

In 2008, Talley was on the victorious U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team, which defeated Europe 22 to 2.

Born in Paducah, KY, the 5’9 golfer grew up in Princeton, KY.

McClain changes mind, retires from Ravens, NFL

Linebacker Rolando McClain has told the Baltimore Ravens that he is retiring from the NFL.

McClain, who is only 23-years-old, played three seasons with the Oakland Raiders before signing a one-year deal with the Ravens on April 12.

The 6’4, 259-pound Alabama native is a graduate of the University of Alabama.

He was drafted into the NFL in 2010 by the Raiders, first round, eighth pick overall.

His NFL totals: 244 tackles, 6.5 quarterback sacks and 1 interception.

Honda Classic win is first PGA title for Thompson

University of Alabama product Michael Thompson walked up the fairway to the 18th green with a one-shot lead in the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

He stood in the 18th fairway with a one-shot lead was 240 yards from the flag. In his way was a large lake.

No problem as he hit a 5-wood into the left bunker to set up an easy sand shot and a birdie he didn’t even need.

By closing with a 1-under-par 69, Thompson became a PGA Tour winner for the first time.

He was two shots better than Geoff Ogilvy.

Texas golf team wins NCAA men’s championship

The University of Texas won its third NCAA men’s golf title when it defeated the University of Alabama on a 20-foot birdie putt by senior Dylan Frittelli in Los Angeles.

The two schools were tied winning two matches apiece when Frittelli and Corey Whitsett arrived at the 18th hole tied in the last match.

“Broadway Joe” Namath gets another honor

Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath was embarrassed in his own words, being honored by his hometown of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Namath was one of 10 Hall of Famers to be recognized this yer as part of its Hometown Hall of Famers program.

The 68-year-old Namath, in 140 games for the New York Jets and the Los Angeles Rams, won 62, loss 63 and 4 ties. He was a first-round pick in the 1965 NFL draft, 12th overall out of the University of Alabama.
