USA’s Justin Gatlin wins 100 meters in Monaco

In his first competition back from a hamstring injury, 31-year-old Justin Gatlin lead the United States team to a win in the 400 relay with a time of 37.58.

Then it was time for the 100-meter dash.

Gatlin showed that he can be just as tough as Usain Bolt by winning the 100-meter dash in 9.94 seconds at the Herculis meet in Monaco.

Japan wins World Cup of Softball, 6-3 over United States

Lauren Gibson homered for the United States but it was not enough as Yuki Hayashi went 2 for 4 with three RBI’s as Japan beat the U.S. 6-3 to win the gold medal.

The win by the Japanese ended the United States long reign in the international tournament.

Japan beat the U.S. for the second time in as many days and now has a streak of three in a row having also won in the 2012 gold-medal game.

Benjamin Logan, Penn State product Nicole Fawcett leads USA volleyball over Japan

Zanesfield, Ohio native Nicole Fawcett scored 24 points in leading the United States women’s national team over Japan Saturday night.

The scores were 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 23-25, 15-10 in San Juan Capistrano, California.

The win completed a three-match sweep of the inaugural USA Volleyball Cup.

Goalie Hope Solo is back with U.S. Women’s Soccer team

Goalkeeper Hope Solo, who has been out since having wrist surgery in March, is back with the United States women’s soccer team.

The 31-year-old Solo was one of 23 players selected by head coach Tom Sermanni to prepare for two games against South Korea, June 15 in Foxborough, Mass., and June 20 in Harrison, N.J.

Solo has made 135 international appearances with the national team.

Djokovic leads Serbia to 3-1 lead over United States in Davis Cup action

Novak Djokovic, despite a right ankle injury still helped lift Serbia to a huge 3-1 lead over the United States with a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 win over Sam Querrey in a Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Boise, Idaho.

The World’s #1 Men’s Tennis player twisted his ankle on Querrey’s serve in the third game.
