(by OCAL courtesy Clker.com)

Craig James was a top running back during his days on the football field at SMU and in the NFL for the New England Patriots.

Now he hopes to run things well in Congress.

The ESPN analyst has announced plans to run for the U.S. Senate as a Republican from Texas.

He submitted his paperwork to the Republican Party of Texas on the final day of the normal filing period.

The 50-year-old James played in the 1986 Pro Bowl.

He also played in the now-defuncted USFL Washington Federals.
