The ATP Tour strongly opposes the U.S. Open’s switch to a Monday final in 2013 and they’re not satisfied with the prize money increase for the annual tournament.

The ATP in a statement said: “We strongly believe the U.S. Open should keep a similar schedule to the other Grand Slams, with the men’s semifinals completed by Friday and the final on Sunday.”

The governing body of Men’s tennis told the media that the Tour and players have made it very clear to the U.S. Open Committee that a Monday final will not be supported.

The United States Tennis Association announced on Friday that the women’s final would move to Sunday and the men’s final to Monday in 2013.

Mickelson surprisingly withdraws from Memorial Tournament due to fatigue

“Lefty” Phil Mickelson before coming to the Columbus, Ohio area this week for the Memorial Tournament, had played in three straight tournaments. He then skipped a tournament to take his wife, Amy, to Italy last week as a present to celebrate her 40th birthday.

You would think his body would be refreshed and a good week of golf was on tap.

The 41-year-old PGA Tour veteran who is one of the fan-favorites, will not get his 49th career win at the Memorial.

Mickelson withdrew from the tournament after shooting a 7-over-par 79. It was his worst round in 12 visits to the Dublin, Ohio tournament.

Several people who were in the galleries where Mickelson played, said that it was the patrons taking photos with their cellphones and cellphone chatter which made the left-hander leave the tournament.

After banning the cellphones for years, the PGA Tour in 2011 started allowing fans to carry their fans on the course as long as they’re set for the silent mode and don’t use them near the tees.

Mickelson said he has never withdrew from a tournament due to a noninjury.

Mickelson told the media after his round, “I think mentally I’m a little bit fatigued. I’m trying to think of the big picture on what’s best for me to get ready for the U.S. Open.”

The U.S. Open will be played in two weeks in San Francisco’s Olympic Club, Lake Course.

Nicolas Colsaerts had no problem handling the fierce winds to hold off Graeme McDowell and is the 2012 winner of the World Match Play Championship in Casares, Spain on the PGA European Tour.

The win helps Colsaerts in his chances of earning a spot on Europe’s Ryder Cup team.

Colsaerts, who is 29 and from Belguim, won his ninth pro tournament, second European Tour title. He won a check for $900,000.

McDowell, the 2010 U.S. Open champion, could not win due to poor iron play.
