* Ohio State now leads the series all-time with a 4-1 record, including four straight wins. Colorado is now 1-3 in the state of Ohio and 7-22 all-time in games played in the Eastern Time Zone, losing the last nine.

* Colorado, beginning play in 1890, has enjoyed much success through its history in football. The team has won numerous bowl games, 27 appearances for a 12-15 record, which is tied for 23rd all-time and they’ve won an Associated Press National Championship in 1990.

* Bill McCartney is the most famous head coach, leading Colorado to their only National Championship in 1990.

* Colorado has had only one player win the Heisman Trophy Award, Rashaan Salaam in 1994.

* The Buffaloes have had 5 players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame:

COLUMBUS, OHIO — The Colorado Buffaloes came into the game one of just eight schools to have committed just one turnover in the first three weeks of the season, but that good run of luck ended on the fumbled exchange in the first quarter between Tyler Hansen and Rodney Stewart.

Colorado went 133 minutes, 9 seconds between turnovers.

* WR Tyler McCulloch had his first career touchdown reception of 14 yards from Tyler Hansen in the fourth quarter. It came on his fifth career catch.

* TE Ryan Deehan had a career-high 71 receiving yards, beating his old high of 70 against Baylor in 2010 on seven catches.

* PK Will Oliver, a freshman, remained perfect on the season, 6-for-6 on field goals and 11-of-11 on point after touchdowns for 29 points. Only Jeremy Flores has made more field goals without missing to start a career at Colorado than Oliver. Flores made his first seven over the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

* OLB Josh Hartigan recorded a pair of sacks today, giving him four on the season and 11 in his career.

COLORADO AT OHIO STATE GAMEWEEK: Buffaloes beats arch-rival Colorado State for first win of 2011

The Colorado Buffaloes won their first game of the season and it came against their in-state arch-rivals in Denver at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

Senior quarterback Tyler Hansen marched CU on an 85-yard, 10-minute fourth-quarter drive, topping it off with a 2-yard sneak to help get the Buffs past Colorado State 28-14.

The win was CU’s first of the new season and the first in the coaching career of former Buffaloes star tight end Jon Embree.

Colorado which buried CSU 24-3 in 2010, has won seven of the 11 games with its intrastate rival played in Denver. The game in 2011 of the Rocky Mountain showdown, now sponsored by Cinch Jeans, drew just 57,186, the lowest crowd in 11 CU-CSU games played off campus.

The Buffaloes are 1-2 and play at Ohio State this coming Saturday.

Rodney Stewart

Senior tailback Rodney “Speedy” Stewart was nearly a one-man offensive show for Colorado, rushing 19 times for 98 yards and catching seven passes for 93 to account for 191 yards in total offense. Hansen completed 17 of 32  passes for 215 yards. He led the Buffaloes to 4 TD’s, two rushing and two passing.

The CU defense shut down the Rams. They allowed just 67 yards rushing and held Rams quarterback Pete Thomas to 18 of 28 passing for 157 yards. He came into the game averaging 218.5 yards a game through the air.

One bug-a-boo Colorado has is penalties. They have 29 in three games, including 10 for 114 yards against Colorado State.
