Podsednik’s travels: Boston to Arizona back to Boston

The 36-year-old journeyman batted .387 with one homer and seven RBI’s for the Red Sox before being sent to Arizona back on July 31.

The Diamondbacks released him after Podsednik declined an assignment to Triple-A Reno.

Dontrelle Willis is looking for a new home as D-Backs designate him for assignment

compiled from staff and wire reports

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been making changes in their baseball club over the past week and now Dontrelle Willis is the latest personality swept out the door.

The team, designated the tall lefty for assignment Sunday and recalled young left-handed reliever Jordan Norberto from Triple-A Reno. In his brief stay in Arizona, Willis showed the same control problems that hurt him with Detroit.

The D-Backs acquired Willis from the Tigers on June 1 for right-hander Billy Buckner, with Detroit picking up most of the pitcher’s $12 million salary. In six games with Arizona, five as a starting pitcher, Willis was 1-1 with a 6.85 ERA. He struck out 13 and walked 27 in 22 & 1/3 innings.

Willis was recently moved to the bullpen, his only game as a reliever was Saturday night, when Willis gave up three runs on three hits in one inning of Arizona’s 14-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Willis had lost his starting job to Barry Enright, a 24-year-old right-hander who was called up from Double-A Mobile and held St. Louis to a run in five innings in Arizona’s 4-2 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
