Dontrelle Willis has pitched for four major league baseball teams in the past three seasons. He is trying to prove once again that he belongs on the major league level.

The Cincinnati Reds are providing that chance for the likeable and personable Willis.

The tall lefty has pitched very well in his last two starts for Triple-A Louisville.

In his 2011 debut start vs. Toledo on Sunday, the 29-year-old veteran allowed three hits and struck out five in a 5-1 victory.

Willis on Friday night turned in his second strong, scoreless outing, holding the Indianapolis Indians to five hits over six innings as the Louisville Bats breezed to a 3-0 triumph over Indianapolis.

The former National League Rookie of the Year upped his record to 2-0, striking out six and walked a pair of batters, 95 pitches in the game.

Pre-Season Clippers: Grady Sizemore Has a Promising Showing; Clippers edge OSU, 4-3

4/05/11 -Columbus, Ohio- Coming off a championship year, thus far the Clippers have shown potential for what may be another good run at the championship as they went on to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in a 7-inning exhibition game by a final count of 4-3. A game that started off slow eventually took off and included an out-of-the park shot by Luke Carlin 12 (who was playing for the Bucks). Fans enjoyed cheap $5 admission and brisk but bearable weather. The OSU left fielder David Corna was shaky at times, but the wind certainly played a factor in that. The game had one double-play (shown below) that got most of the fans on their feet. There is a lot to be excited about especially after the solid play from Carlin, Wes Hodges, and Luis Valbuena.  One thing that made the game especially interesting to one personal viewer (ME) was the play of #41 Grady Sizemore in blue..

After starting the game with a ground out that went from second to first (base) CF Grady Sizemore went on to have a not great, but solid 7-innings. He was responsible for one run scored and stole a base and finished the night 2-4 at the plate.

Coming off of a knee injury, Sizemore demonstrated he is in the right track in terms of gaining back strength and getting the reps needed before he suits up for the Cleveland Indians.

“We need to get in the flow of the season”
“It was a good team effort”
-Manager Mike Sarbaugh

With one more exhibition game against Akron the team heads into regular season play with their first game Thursday at Indianapolis. The Clippers do not return to home until the 16th with a game against Toledo. They then could have great success but will be tested as they have 10-game home stretch followed by 5 away to round out the month of April.

Ohio State self-reports to NCAA; Tressel sanctioned

OSU AD Gene Smith discusses violations with the media

Jim Tressel talks about his judgement call on keeping confidentiality

Ohio State University’s administration swiftly called a press conference for Tuesday evening in response to the Yahoo Sports article on Monday that revealed revelations that head football coach Jim Tressel had received information that some of his players were selling memorabilia itesm to Fine Line Ink Tatoos owner, Ed Rife, as early as April 2010.

At the packed-house conference room at the Jack Nicklaus Museum, Tressel admitted knowledge of information about his players’ involvement, but he said he kept it quiet due to the confidentiality that it was a federal investigation going on involving criminal activity.

The University discovered all of this on January 13 when reviewing files for an unrelated matter.

Athletic director Gene Smith told the media that OSU self-reported a 10.1 unethical conduct infraction to the NCAA in February, shortly after discovery that Tressel had withheld information.

The university has suspended Jim Tressel for the first two games of the 2011 season against Akron and Toledo; and fined the coach $250,000 and a public reprimand and apology for failing to disclose prior knowledge about his players’ participation in a memorabilia scheme for profit.

“I’m sorry and disappointed this happened. At the time the situation occurred, I thought I was doing the right thing.” Tressel said. “I understand my responsibility to represent Ohio State and the game of football. I apologize to any and all of the people I have let down. I will grow from this experience.”
