Media that regularly cover the Mid-American Conference have selected Akron and Toledo to win their respective divisions in the annual preseason poll.
The Ohio Bobcats were picked to finish second in the East. Their best player, Maurice Ndour was selected to the All-MAC East team. The Bobcats have a new head coach in Saul Phillips, who took North Dakota State to the NCAA Tournament last season as a member of the Summit League.
The Akron Zips received 17 first-place votes to win the East. They return four starters from the 21-13 team of a year ago.
Toledo, who just a few years ago was one of the worst teams in the MAC, has been picked to win the conference tournament and go to the NCAA Tournament. The Rockets received 18 first-place votes to win the West and returns four starters from last season where they won a school-record 27 games.

Two Ohio State football players, who have been projected as starters for the 2012 football season, have been arrested by police in the central Ohio village of Shawnee Hills on a charge of obstructing official business.
Tight end Jake Stoneburner and offensive lineman Jack Mewhort were arrested around 2:30 a.m. by the Shawnee Hills police. Reports say that the two were allegedly urinating between buildings near the Bogey Inn. They ended up running from the cops and hid between cars. Another man, Austin Barnard, was arrested. He is not an OSU football player.
Reports have stated that the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office said that the players have been released after posting $2,000 bond.
Considered to be leaders on this year’s team, Stoneburner, is a senior from Dublin and Mewhort is a junior from Toledo.
No word as of yet from Ohio State if any suspensions are forthcoming.
