Despite concerns over knee, Tom Brady plays well in Patriots win over Tampa Bay

Three days ago the concern in Patriots Land was Tom Brady and his knee after a collision during a practice session between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Friday night in an exhibition game against the same Buccaneers, Brady shook off any effects of the sprained left knee and led the Patriots to a 25-21 win.

Playing the first two series, the former University of Michigan quarterback completed his first 11 passes and threw a touchdown pass to Danny Amendola to the delight of New England fans.

As expected, Revis traded to Buccaneers; Jets receive draft picks in return

The much-rumored trade of Darrelle Revis became reality on Sunday.

The New York Jets traded their shut-down cornerback to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2013 Number 13 overall draft pick and a 2014 pick.

The 2014 pick for the Jets will be a conditional one, either a third or fourth rounder.

Revis has agreed to a new contract consisting of six-years, $96 million and no guaranteed money.

LeGrand to participate in coin toss before Tampa Bay-NY Giants game

22-year-old former Rutgers University linebacker Eric LeGrand will be participating this Sunday in the coin toss before the game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Giants at Met Life Stadium.

The New Jersey native was paralyzed in a game against Army at the same stadium back in 2010.

LeGrand was signed by Buccaneers this summer by coach Greg Schiano, his coach at Rutgers. LeGrand officially announced his retirement from football on July 26, 2012 to free up a roster spot for the team.

In June 2012, LeGrand was presented the Unsung Hero Award by the New Jersey Hall of Fame. He was presented the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance at the ESPY’s on July 11, 2012. During his speech, he announced that he would someday walk again.

In August 2012, LeGrand was named the most influential person in New Jersey sports by the Newark-Star Ledger newspaper.

Bengals adds depth to their roster

The Cincinnati Bengals have added guard Chris Riley and defensive tackle Vaughan Meatoga to their 2012 roster.

The team acquired Riley off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Meatoga signed with the Washington Redskins out of Hawaii as an undrafted rookie and was waived last Monday.

Coombs replaces Sheridan on Buckeyes football staff

Kerry Coombs, the associate head football coach for the Cincinnati Bearcats, has been selected by Urban Meyer to replace Bill Sheridan, who left to go to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and take over the job of defensive coordinator on February 16.

Coombs’ responsibilities at UC was to coordinate the pass defense and special teams. He spent five years with the Bearcats program under Brian Kelly and current head coach Butch Jones.

Coombs helped lead Cincinnati Colerain High School to the 2004 Division I Ohio football championship and four semifinal appearances.
