The New York Yankees have announced that right-handed pitcher Ivan Nova has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow.

This type of injury generally requires Tommy John surgery.

The Washington Redskins have hired one of their former quarterbacks to help decide roster moves.

58-year-old Doug Williams was hired Monday to become a personnel executive to work with general manager Bruce Allen on making roster decisions.

Williams, who last season was the head football coach at Grambling University, played with Tampa Bay and Washington in the NFL and also in the United States Football League (USFL).

From 1986-89, he was the Redskins signal-caller. Williams retired with a 5-9 record as Redskins starter (8-9, counting playoffs) and a 38-42-1 record as a regular season starter (42-45-1, including 7 playoff starts). He had 100 passing touchdowns, and 15 rushing touchdowns, in 88 NFL games.

He is considered to be one of the 80 Greatest Redskins of all-time.

Tino Martinez resigns as Miami Marlins hitting coach amid verbal abuse reports

Former Major League Baseball player Tino Martinez was known to be one who thrived on pressure.

During his career with Seattle, the Yankees twice, St. Louis and Tampa Bay, who would always come up with clutch hits.

His career stats showed he had a nice career hitting .271 with 339 homers and 1,271 RBI’s.

Martinez was named the hitting coach for the Miami Marlins for the 2013 season, replacing Eduardo Perez.

Apparently as the hitting coach of the Marlins, Martinez could not handle the pressure of working with and helping young players on a losing team.

Martinez resigned his position just hours after complaints by players about him verbally abusing them became public.

The allegations included him physically abusing Derek Dietrich several months before the resignation. Martinez’s behavior in the clubhouse was reported to also include verbal attacks towards other Marlins’ players, Justin Ruggiano and Chris Valaika and minor leaguer Matt Downs.

Martinez was in his first season as an MLB coach.

South Florida has hired Willie Taggart to take over its struggling football program.

The 36-year-old has established himself as one of the nation’s top young prospects by turning around a Western Kentucky University football program that had a history of losing.

Taggart led the Hilltoppers to a 7-5 record in 2012 and will make their first postseason appearance since joining the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) when they take on Central Michigan in the Little Caesars Bowl.

Hilltoppers defensive coordinator Lance Guidry will lead the team in the bowl.

The Saturday press conference brought Taggart home to the Tampa Bay area where he grew up before going to play and later coach at Western Kentucky, which is located in Bowling Green, Kentucky on the Tennessee border.

Taggart replaces Skip Holtz, who was fired following the worst season in the Bulls 16-year history at 3-9, 1-6 in the Big East good for 8th place.

MLB slow in announcing future All-Star games

(courtesy of MLBpressbox.com)

It has been known for sometime that the 2014 MLB All-Star Game has been awarded to the New York Mets and Citi Field.

Beyond that, who knows where the next games will be.

The 2014 game might go to the Minnesota Twins and Target Field. Every American League team with the exception of Tampa Bay has hosted an All-Star Game since the Twins hosted in 1985 at the Metrodome.

Baseball has been alternating leagues hosting the All-Star Game. But they may get away from that to get all of the newer stadiums in the rotation starting in 2015.
