Anna Nordqvist rallies to win LPGA’s Kia Classic

26-year-old Swedish golf star Anna Nordqvist came back to win the LPGA’s Kia Classic Sunday in Carlsbad, California.

The win was her seventh as a professional golfer.

The Arizona State product was two shots behind the leaders, Cristie Kerr and Lizette Salas entering the final round.

Nordqvist got her game together and closed with a 5-under-par 67 for a one-shot win over Salas.

It was the second straight round that the Sweden native closed with a 5-under 67.

Rangers’ Lundqvist posts 48th shutout; sits one shy of Giacomin record

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped 38 shots on Thursday night against the Detroit Red Wings to collect his third shutout of the season and lead the New York Rangers improve to 7-2-1 in their past 10 games. The Rangers finished up their most recent homestand at 3-1-0.

The 31-year-old Lundqvist, a native of Sweden, has 48 shutouts, all as a Rangers goalie, one shy of the franchise record held by the legendary Ed Giacomin.

Avs Landeskog is youngest ever to be named captain at 19

Gabriel Landeskog, a left winger for the Colorado Avalanche had a nice rookie season with the team last season.

The native of Sweden, played in 82 games, scoring 22 goals, dishing out 30 assists and registering 52 points.

For his hard work and leadership, the Avs named him as team captain on September 4, 2012. That appointment made him the youngest captain in NHL history.

When the Pittsburgh Penguins named Sidney Crosby captain in 2007, he was 11 days older than Landeskog.




Swedish golf star Neumann named European captain for Solheim Cup

45-year-old Liselotte Neumann has been named the European captain for the Solheim Cup.

Neumann, who is from Sweden, has 26 professional wins in her career, 13 on the LPGA Tour.

The Solheim Cup will be played August 16-18 at Colorado Golf Club in the Denver area.

Ohio State golf product Meg Mallon will be the captain of the United States team.

Russia takes down Canada in junior hockey semifinals

Russia stopped Canada’s comeback attempt and advanced to the world junior championship finals, winning 6-5 in the semis.

Canada had made every junior championship round since 2002.

Russia takes on Sweden in the gold medal game.

Sweden advanced by beating Finland 3-2.

The Canadians trailed 6-1 in the third period and scored four unanswered goals but could not get the tying tally late in the game.
