The Boston Bruins have been added to that list of team’s who nobody thought would win the Stanley Cup. Since 2000, they join Colorado (2000-01), New Jersey (2002-03), Tampa Bay (2003-04), Carolina (2005-06), Anaheim (2006-07), Pittsburgh (2008-09) and Chicago last year.

After a 39-year hiatus without winning a Stanley Cup, the Bruins stole the series from the favored-Vancouver Canucks, 4 games to 3.

Goaltender Tim Thomas, the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player of the NHL postseason, made 37 saves in posting the second shutout of the Finals.

Patrice Bergeron and rookie Brad Marchand scored two goals apiece, and the Bruins beat the Canucks 4-0 on Wednesday night to win bring their first championship to Beantown since 1972.

43-year-old Mark Recchi has won his third Stanley Cup with a third franchise, plans to retire.
