Amid NCAA investigation, bad press, Pryor says goodbye to Ohio State

Terrelle Pryor was an imposing figure on the football field at 6’6. 233-pounds.

He was also very successful with a 31-4 record, with 3 Big Ten Conference titles and 2 Bowl wins.

Even with a five-game NCAA suspension in place for the 2011 season, he could’ve improved on all of those stats and championships. But all of that will not be.

Pryor announced on Tuesday that his Ohio State football career is over. He made the announcement through his attorney, Larry James of Columbus, “In the best interests of my teammates, I’ve made the decision to forego my senior year of football at the Ohio State University.”

Pryor’s announcement comes eight days after the resignation of head coach Jim Tressel, who also is facing an NCAA investigation and equally as bad press.

Ohio State interim head coach Luke Fickell said he found out about Pryor’s decision on Tuesday night. “I was notified that Terrelle has decided to pursue a professional career; I wish him the best in his pursuits.”

With Pryor leaving, the Buckeyes quarterback will be chosen from fifth-year senior Joe Bauserman, Kenny Guiton, Taylor Graham and talented freshman Braxton Miller. All four received plenty of reps in the spring since Pryor was out of action after having surgery on his right ankle. Miller and Guiton, both athletic and fast resemble Pryor the best, both played well in the Spring Game.

Ohio Stadium (osu)

It’s the end April and every year at this time, we have the annual spring football game at Ohio Stadium.

This year the theme will be Scarlet, Gray and Pink. It’ll be this Saturday at Ohio Stadium and presented by Nationwide.

The Ohio state men’s lacrosse team will host Air Force at 11 a.m. in the first part of the doubleheader, with the football scrimmage beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Big Ten Network will televise both contests. Gates will open at 10 a.m.

Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 on Saturday at the stadium.

OSU coaches will wear pink caps and the football team will sport jerseys with pink accents that will be auctioned off to benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

Saturday’s forecast calls for rain throughout the day. Fans are encouraged to dress accordingly because umbrellas cannot be used in Ohio Stadium.

Last year, Buckeye fans set national records when 95,722 were on hand at the Horseshoe for the 2009 football Spring Game and 30,192 watched the lacrosse action.
