Beckman beats teammate Capps in NHRA funny car finals in Topeka


Jack Beckman raced to his first funny car win of the 2012 season, defeating Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps in the NHRA Summernationals at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kansas.

Beckman ran a quicker reaction time to beat out Capps in the finals, finishing in 4.158 seconds at 303.09 mph in his Dodge Charger. Capps ran a 4.107 at 304.39.

In other NHRA division Sunday at Topeka, David Grubnic beat Spencer Massey at the finish line in top fuel for his first win since 2006.

Allen Johnson beat pro stock car points leader Greg Anderson in the final round.

Hight wins fourth straight race; takes NHRA Nationals in North Carolina

Robert Hight became the fifth funny car driver to win four straight races, beating John Force, Cruz Pedregon and Ron Capps in the final round of the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals in Concord, North Carolina.

Hight had a 4.076-second run at 314.83 mph in the unique event, which features racing in four lanes instead of the traditional two.

Hight is the son-in-law of John Force, having John’s oldest daughter, Adria, who is the CFO of John Force Racing.

Other winners in North Carolina on the NHRA circuit includes, Spencer Massey in top fuel and Greg Anderson in pro stock.

Coughlin loses in finals of Pro Stock at Pomona.

Columbus, Ohio area native Jeg Coughlin, Jr., sat out the 2011 NHRA season to work on putting together his own team.

The four-time season champion came to within eight feet of a win in his comeback bid in the NHRA Pro Stock car finals at the Winternationals in Pomona, California.

Coughlin qualified 14th but quickly climbed the ladder with three elimination wins before losing to Greg Anderson in the finals.

Other winners at Ponoma include: John Force in Funny Car and Spencer Massey in Top Fuel.

Massey wins NHRA event in Colorado

Spencer Massey edged out teammate Tony Schumacher in the final elimination round to win the top fuel division at the Mopar Mile High Nationals in Morrison, Colorado and Brandimere Speedway.

Massey was able to top out at 269.67 mph and drove the 1,000-foot dragway in 4.150 seconds for his fifth career win and third of 2011.

The NHRA had other winners in John Force, funny car; Mike Edwards, pro stock and Karen Stoffer, motorcycle.

Massey wins NHRA Top Fuel competition in NJ; 2nd straight win

Spencer Massey won his second straight top fuel victory, beating Del Worsham in the NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey.

Massey defeated Worsham in the final with a run of 3.821 seconds at 319.07 mph.

Other NHRA winners include Mike Neff (funny car), Allen Johnson (pro stock) and Matt Smith (pro stock motorcycle).
