Outfielder Shelley Duncan is back with the Cleveland Indians and the club has  optioned infielder Jason Donald back to Triple-A Columbus.

The roster moves were made Friday, July 6,  before the Indians played against the Tampa Bay Rays, a game in which they lost 10-3.

Duncan and his wife, Elyse, welcomed twin boys William and Walker to the world on Thursday.

Duncan was hitting .221 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 55 games, before going on the MLB Paternity List, which is a 3-day stay. He missed just two games.

Donald has split this season between Cleveland and Columbus. He has played 18 games with the Indians.

Eventhough it is spring training, the Cincinnati Reds are scoring runs big time.

They roughed up Cleveland Indians ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez for five runs, only one earned, in one inning in his 2012 spring debut on Sunday, in winning 8-6 in Goodyear, Arizona in Cactus League action.

Homer Bailey and Aroldis Chapman, both competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, threw two innings each.

Bailey allowed three runs and four hits on 32 pitches. He gave up a three-run homer to Shelley Duncan.

Chapman allowed one run, two hits, a walk and struck out three.

The Cleveland Indians promoted right-hander Jeanmar Gomez from Triple-A Columbus.

To make room on the 25-man roster, the Indians optioned outfielder Shelley Duncan to Columbus.

Gomez had pitched for the Tribe earlier in the season from April 19-May 5, pitching five times.

With the Columbus Clippers this season, the 23-year-old Gomez is 9-3 with a 2.40 ERA in 14 starts and was an International League All-Star.

Buck gets optioned back to Columbus

Travis Buck (file photo)

Travis Buck is the odd-man out again when a roster spot needs to be cleared.

The Cleveland Indians optioned Travis Buck back to Triple-A Columbus before embarking on a nine-game interleague road trip to three National League cities.

In two stints with the Indians, Buck has hit .228 with two homers and nine RBI’s in 32 games. He doubled in Wednesday night’s 4-3 win over Colorado.

There is talk that Shelley Duncan will be recalled from Columbus before the team starts its road trip at San Francisco. The Indians will need Duncan’s bat off the bench because there is no designated hitter in National League ballparks. Duncan is the Tribe’s best pinch-hitter with a .222 average, two homers and 17 RBI’s.
