Djokovic leads Serbia to 3-1 lead over United States in Davis Cup action

Novak Djokovic, despite a right ankle injury still helped lift Serbia to a huge 3-1 lead over the United States with a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0 win over Sam Querrey in a Davis Cup quarterfinal match in Boise, Idaho.

The World’s #1 Men’s Tennis player twisted his ankle on Querrey’s serve in the third game.

Huck retains HBO cruiserweight belt by beating Rossi

German cruiserweight boxer Marco Huck, who was born in Serbia, kept his WBO title for the eighth time, beating Argentine challenger Rogelio Rossi in the sixth round in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Huck, who is 6’2, 187 pounds and 26 years old, improves his record to 34-1 with 25 knockouts, also knocked down the overmatched Rossi in the third round. But he was penalized by the referee two points for knocking Rossi down in the fourth round after the bell had rung.

Rossi (17-3-1) had to be given medical attention after Huck hit the 30-year-old on the canvas with right-hand punch.

Djokovic wins Rogers Cup tournament

The world’s number 1 tennis player comtinues to have a sensational 2011 season.

Novak Djokovic won the Rogers Cup in Montreal for his ninth tournament victory of the season, beating Mardy Fish 6-2, 3-6,6-4.

The 24-year-old Serbia native, has won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, is 29-0 this year playing on hard courts and 53-1 overall.

Djokovic moves to #1 in men’s tennis

Tennis star Novak Djokovic was given a big welcome by fans of his native Serbia, during a visit earlier in the week.

The Wimbledon champion has officially moved past Rafael Nadal as the #1-ranked player a day after beating the Spaniard 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 in the final round.

This is the first time in nearly 7 1/2 years that a tennis player other than Nadal or Roger Federer is ranked number-1.

Novak Djokovic, the #2 tennis player in the world, extended his winning streak to 43 straight matches, beating France’s Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.

Djokovic of Serbia is on the verge of tying John McEnroe’s 27-year-old record of 42 straight victories at the start of the season if he wins his next match.

His streak started at the Davis Cup at the end of December 2010.

Djokovic can move to the #1 spot in the ATP World Tour rankings is he makes it to the final of the French Open tournament.
