OSU product Prahalis has memorable pro debut in WNBA for Phoenix

Former Ohio State Buckeyes point guard Samantha Prahalis scored 12 points and dished out six assists in 30 minutes of action during her WNBA  debut for the Phoenix Mercury, a 105-83 loss to the defending league champions, Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis.

Wearing a new number 7 in the pros, Prahalis made 4 of 7 shots from the field, 3 of 6 three-pointers, two rebounds, a steal and four turnovers.

Former Ohio State basketball players William Buford and Samantha Prahalis will be the headline stars for the fourth annual Jump25.com All-Star Classic on today, April 14 at Ohio Dominican University’s Alumni Hall.

The classic will feature area high school and Ohio college seniors.

The girls high school game starts at 12 noon, with the women’s college game at 1:30 p.m., the boys high school game takes place at 3 p.m. and the men’s college game at 5:00 p.m.

OSU women to play Florida State in Big Ten/ACC Challenge

Ohio State is scheduled to play host to Florida State on November 30 in the Big Ten/ACC Women’s Basketball Challenge contest.

The Buckeyes, the defending Big Ten tournament champions, have three starters returning from last season’s 24-10 team, Samantha Prahalis, Tayler Hill and Ashley Adams. OSU lost in the Sweet 16 to Tennessee.

Florida State, 24-8 last season will return three starters from the state of Ohio, Cierra Bravard, Natasha Howard and Tay’ler Mingo. The Seminoles reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Atlantic Coast Conference leads the series between the two leagues at 64-51.

Prahalis named Nancy Lieberman award Finalist

Ohio State point guard Samantha Prahalis has been named one of 11 finalists for the 12th Annual Nancy Lieberman Award. The award is a national project of the Rotary Club of Detroit honoring the nation’s top collegiate point guard in Division I.

The criteria for the award are floor leadership, play-making and ball-handling skills that personified Hall of Famer, Nancy Lieberman during her career.

Sportswriters across the nation have selected the final nominee list and will select three finalists and one winner in April. The announcement of the three finalists and one winner will be made during the Final Four Weekend, April 3-5, 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
