The NBA’s Sacramento Kings have been rumored to be up for sale and moving to Seattle.
On Friday, the NBA received an offer from Mark Mastrov, founder of 24 Hour Fitness, and billionaire Ron Burkle, to buy the Kings franchise and keep the team in town.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that a Seattle group had signed an agreement to buy the Kings from the Maloof family.
If the league blocks the deal to move the team to Seattle, which has been wanting the NBA to come back since the SuperSonics moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, the Maloof family would still have to agree to sell the franchise to any buyer they so choose.
The Kings over the years have been a relocating franchise. They started out as the Rochester Royals (1945-1957), the Cincinnati Royals (1957-1972), Kansas City-Omaha Kings (1972-1975), Kansas City Kings (1975-1985) and in Sacramento 1985-to the present time.
